Pregnancy Chiropractic SERVICES
Exciting and life-changing, pregnancy also brings many changes to a mom-to-be’s body. For this reason, seeing a chiropractor during pregnancy can be highly beneficial, and can help you grow a healthy baby. We believe that every pregnant woman can benefit from chiropractic care as it’s important to have an intact nervous system, so the body is sending the right signal.
Benefits for the mom-to-be
Chiropractic can effectively de-stress the body as there are so many changes going on hormonally and physically. It’s important to manage stress and chiropractic is a terrific way to do just that. Because the ligaments are lax during pregnancy, the body’s more likely to go out of alignment during that time. Chiropractic is a great way to keep the pelvis mobile and moving. Women who have chiropractic care during pregnancy can also expect to have less pain in the last trimester and enjoy a much easier delivery.
Benefits for Baby
Because a baby’s nervous system is developing during pregnancy, chiropractic facilitates the communication from the brain to the body and back up to the brain. Other benefits for the baby include:
In addition to chiropractic, nutrition is also critical during pregnancy. From drinking coffee to eating foods containing pesticides, bad habits should not only be broken during pregnancy but at all times as well. Pregnancy chiropractor Dr. Guthrie will provide guidance about what to eat and what to avoid.
Are the adjustments different?
When you’re in your first two trimesters, you’ll likely be adjusted with Diversified or Neuro Impulse but those adjustments will be specific to you and your needs. As your belly starts growing and you can’t lie on stomach, we’ll have you use a special pregnancy pillow so you can be assessed that way. Dr. Guthrie will also do a side posture adjustment on the pelvis until you get into the last trimester. At that point, she mostly works on ligaments and pelvic walking and making sure the structures that are supporting the pelvis are relaxing and being where they need to be.
How Often Should I Come in for Care?
“I treat pregnant practice members just like I treat everybody else because my goal is to get everyone on the path to wellness. Understanding that life is lived through your nervous system, we have to take care of the spine that protects it throughout your entire life,” says Dr. Guthrie. “Whether you’re pregnant or not my recommendations are going to be the same.” She’ll monitor you through your pregnancy and be on the lookout for things like rising blood pressure or swelling in the ankles. While you’re carrying your baby it’s important that the body is functioning optimally.
